The Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG)
Your RESP contributions are eligible for the Canada Education Savings Grant.
The CESG provides plan holders with a grant of up to 40% in matched contributions,
based on your annual family income. The CESG can add up to $7,200 in extra contributions
over the lifespan of an RESP and will earn investment income inside the plan.
CESG MATCHING RATE:
20% on the first $2,500 of RESP contributions
ANNUAL GRANT MAXIMUM:
$500 per child
ANNUAL LIFETIME GRANT:

20% on the next $2,000 each year

Canada Learning Bond (CLB)
Primary caregivers that qualify for the National Child Benefit Supplement (NCBS)
or Children's Special Allowances (CSA), for dependents born on or after January
1, 2004, qualify for the Canada Learning Bond (CLB). This is an outright grant,
not based on your own RESP contributions. The CLB is invested along with any
contributions that you make and will earn investment income inside the RESP.
- $500 for the first year of eligibility
- Up to 15 additional $100 CLB grants (one for each year the primary caregiver
qualifies for the NCBS or CSA, until the year the child turns 15 years of
age.)
- Up to $2,000 maximum grant over the lifespan of the RESP
- The child must be a Canadian resident to qualify
Alberta Centennial Education Savings Plan Grant
The Alberta Centennial Education Savings Plan Grant is available to all children
named as beneficiaries of an RESP born to, or adopted by Alberta residents on
or after January 1, 2005, regardless of the household income level. The Alberta
grant is invested along with any contributions that you make and will earn investment
income inside the RESP.
- Initial $500 RESP "kick start" per child
- Beginning in 2013, subsequent grants of $100 will be available to students
enrolled in school in Alberta at ages 8, 11 and 14
- A contribution of at least $100 during the previous year into an RESP will
be required to receive the $100 subsequent grants
- Up to $800 maximum grant over lifespan of RESP '
